Deutsche Welle reports on Wehrmann: Turning old into new with retrofitting

After the inspiring Retrofitting Symposium at Techtogether 2024, BMU showcased how existing machinery can be transformed into sustainable efficient plants in collaboration with Wehrmann — with impressive results!
This is what happens when innovative ideas are put into practical action.

Deutsche Welle captured this perfectly in a recent program, highlighting our successful retrofit partnership with BMU Brinkmann Möbelelemente Ummantelswerke GmbH & Co. KG.

This project compellingly demonstrated how Wehrmann not only revitalizes existing machines through targeted modernization but also enhances their performance in terms of quality, efficiency, and sustainability..

A key advantage is that, compared to constructing a new machine, many existing system components—such as the robust base frame and various other parts—are reused. This approach eliminates the need to manufacture new components in these areas, resulting in an economical and cost-effective rebuild of the machine. Additionally, it minimizes environmental impact by avoiding the production of new steel and other materials.
It's a true win-win situation for all parties involved:

✅ New life for proven machines – through comprehensive modernization and intelligent retrofitting
✅ Potential for implementing customized solutions and new features
✅ Steel instead of aluminum – the original machine frame remains as a sturdy base frame
✅ State-of-the-art energy efficiency
✅ Processes that last – seamless integration into existing infrastructure for smooth production
✅ Greater sustainability – less resource consumption, fewer emissions, greater future security

Claus-Dieter Brinkmann, Managing Director of BMU, explains in this article how customized retrofit solutions save energy, reduce costs, and simultaneously increase production reliability.

At Wehrmann, we show how "used" becomes "better than new": From the mechanics to the controls to the paintwork, every detail is professionally refurbished – robust, precise, and future-proof.

Many thanks to the Deutsche Welle editorial team and Jürgen Schneider for bringing attention and visibility to this important topic!
